Delhi to Goa for a villa trip: fly or take the train?
Updated 7 November 2026
From Delhi, fly, and choose the airport by the villa: Mopa for North Goa, Dabolim for South Goa. Trains run daily, but the fastest, the twice-weekly Rajdhani from Hazrat Nizamuddin, takes 23 hours 22 minutes to Thivim on Konkan Railway's schedule, and the daily Goa Express takes 38 hours 25 minutes to Madgaon.
Should a Delhi group fly or take the train to Goa?
Fly. Goa is more than a day away from Delhi by train, and a villa holiday is usually a few nights long, so a flight gives the group back one or two days at each end. The train is worth it only if the journey is part of the holiday for you, or someone in the group cannot fly.
The more useful decision for a Delhi group is the airport. Goa has two, Mopa in the north and Dabolim in the south, 50 km apart by a PTI report, and landing at the wrong one can add hours to the transfer.

Mopa or Dabolim: which airport should you fly into from Delhi?
Mopa for a North Goa villa, Dabolim for a South Goa villa. Delhi has had flights to both. Goa Tourism lists Delhi among the cities with flights to Dabolim. When Mopa opened to passengers on 5 January 2023, its first flight was an IndiGo service from Delhi, Business Today reported, and Delhi was among IndiGo's eight launch routes. Look for the airport code on the ticket: GOX is Mopa, GOI is Dabolim.
| If the villa is in | Fly into | Transfer facts | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| North Goa: Siolim, Assagao, Moira, Anjuna, Candolim | Mopa (GOX) | About 20 km and 45 minutes to Assagao; about 35 km and an hour to Panaji. Taxi fares listed in January 2023: Mapusa ₹810, Morjim ₹1,100, Siolim and Anjuna ₹1,200. | Free Press Journal (January 2023) |
| South Goa: Benaulim, Cavelossim, Agonda, Palolem | Dabolim (GOI) | 24.4 km and 33 minutes to Margao; 6 km from Vasco; about 26 km from Panaji | Goa Tourism |
| South Goa, but you landed at Mopa | Mopa (GOX) | About 100 km and two and a half hours to South Goa | Free Press Journal (January 2023) |
At Mopa, the airport lists the state's Goa Taxi app counter, GoaMiles and MegaCabs, plus airport buses to Thivim station, Calangute, Panaji and Margao. At Dabolim, Goa Tourism lists pre-paid taxis and Goa Miles cabs. Taxi fares have changed since 2023, so confirm the rate before you set off.
What is waiting at each airport?
At Dabolim, Goa Tourism says domestic arrivals use Terminal 1 and international flights Terminal 2. The Airports Authority of India describes Dabolim as a civil enclave in the naval air base INS Hansa, with Vasco da Gama as its nearest railway station. It handled about 68.72 lakh passengers in 2023-24, by the AAI's figure.
At Mopa, the airport's own bus timetable lists departures to Calangute at 8.30 am, 10 am, 11 am, 2.30 pm, 5.30 pm and 8.30 pm; to Panaji via Mapusa at 9 am, 11.30 am and 1.30 pm; and to Thivim railway station at 10.15 am, 1 pm and 5 pm. For a group with luggage, a taxi or villa pickup is simpler, but the bus is a useful fallback if a pickup falls through.
Which Delhi train suits a villa trip, if you take one?
The Rajdhani 22414 for North Goa, and the Mangala Express if you need a daily train. The Rajdhani is the fastest on Konkan Railway's schedule and stops at Thivim, the main station for North Goa, at 5.38 am. It runs only on Fridays and Saturdays from Hazrat Nizamuddin. The return Rajdhani, 22413, leaves Madgaon at 9.50 am and Thivim at 10.22 am on Sundays and Mondays and reaches Hazrat Nizamuddin at 12.30 pm the next day.
The Goa Sampark Kranti, 12450, starts in Chandigarh and calls at New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin on Mondays and Saturdays. It is the one Delhi train that stops at Pernem, Thivim and Karmali, so it suits villas near Morjim and Mandrem as well as the rest of North Goa.
The two daily trains are slower. The Mangala Express takes 32 hours 55 minutes to Thivim. The Goa Express does not use the Konkan line: it runs through Bhopal, Pune, Miraj and Belagavi, enters Goa at Kulem and stops at Madgaon at 5.40 am on the third day, 38 hours 25 minutes after leaving Delhi. It suits a South Goa villa only.
Gomantak Times sets out which station serves which part of Goa: Pernem for Arambol, Mandrem, Ashwem and Morjim; Thivim for North Goa including Anjuna, Baga and Calangute; Karmali for Panaji and Old Goa; and Madgaon Junction for South Goa.
What should a Delhi group plan differently from a Mumbai group?
Plan the villa and the flight together, and do it early. From Mumbai a group can fall back on a day train if fares rise; from Delhi the realistic options are the flight or a train of a day and more. So the two decisions that matter are:
- Fix the area first. Decide between North and South Goa with our North Goa or South Goa guide, then book flights into the matching airport.
- Book the transfer with the villa. A large group with luggage may need more than one car. Ask whether the villa can arrange the pickup at the right airport, and get the fare in writing.
- Check the peak dates. December is the dearest month for Goa villas on Airbnb's averages; see the New Year 2026-27 villa guide and our Goa villa price guide before you compare quotes.
If friends are joining from other cities, the Mumbai, Pune and Bengaluru guides show where their trains and flights arrive. Most Mumbai trains stop at Thivim; the Pune and Bengaluru trains stop at Madgaon.
Where should a Delhi group book a villa?
Near the airport you can fly into most easily, which for most Delhi groups means choosing between two clusters.
- Flying to Mopa: North Goa. Siolim, Assagao and Moira are quieter villages; Anjuna and Candolim are by the beach and the nightlife.
- Flying to Dabolim: South Goa. Benaulim and Cavelossim are on the coast south of Colva; Palolem and Agonda are in the far south.
