What is Siolim like?
Siolim is a large village in the far north-west of Bardez taluka, on the southern bank of the Chapora river. Gomantak Times describes paddy fields, green hills and streams, and a village that has grown into a tourist draw with supermarkets, restaurants and food franchises while farmers still work the fields. It is a village base, not a beach strip.
The landmark is St Anthony's Church. The small river opposite the church is where Siolim holds the feast of Sao Joao every 24 June, and Goa Tourism calls Siolim the epicentre of that festival. Before the 1990s, people crossed the river by ferry; today the Siolim-Chopdem bridge carries traffic across the river.
How do you get to Siolim?
Fly into Mopa and take the train to Thivim. Manohar International Airport at Mopa is in Pernem taluka, on the Goa-Maharashtra border, according to a PTI report, and Siolim is in the far north-west of Bardez taluka, by Gomantak Times' description. Of the two airports, Mopa is the northern one. When Mopa opened in January 2023, the Free Press Journal listed Siolim among the places a taxi from the airport would cost up to ₹1,200. Fares have changed since, so confirm the rate at the counter.
Dabolim, the older airport, is near Vasco in South Goa, 26 km from Panaji by Goa Tourism's figure, and Mopa is about 50 km from Dabolim. From Dabolim you cross most of central Goa to reach Siolim.
By train, Gomantak Times recommends Thivim for North Goa, and most trains halt there. Pernem station is closer to Mopa and the northern beaches, but few trains stop there.

Which beaches and places are near Siolim?
The nearest beaches are Morjim and Ashwem across the river, and Vagator and Anjuna on Siolim's side. Goa Tourism gives distances from Panaji rather than from Siolim, so the table uses those to show how far north these beaches are.
| Place | Where it is | What it is for |
|---|---|---|
| Morjim beach | North of the Chapora, near Ashwem | Olive Ridley turtle nesting beach, guarded by volunteers (Goa Tourism) |
| Ashwem beach | From the Chapora's north bank towards Querim; about 30 km from Panaji | Quiet beach, good for swimming, with a river nearby that Goa Tourism calls safe for young children. No water sports. |
| Vagator beach and Chapora Fort | Chapora river basin, about 22 km from Panaji | Bay under the fort; a favourite venue for midnight parties in season (Goa Tourism) |
| Anjuna beach | Next to Vagator, about 18 km from Panaji | Wednesday flea market and a rocky cove (Goa Tourism) |
| Arambol (Harmal) | Far north coast | Yoga and meditation centres, black rocks at sunset (Goa Tourism) |
| St Anthony's Church, Siolim | In the village, by the river | The Sao Joao boat parade on 24 June (Goa Tourism, Gomantak Times) |
Siolim also has a Zagor, a night-long folk performance. Folklorist Dr Pandurang Phaldesai, quoted by O Heraldo in May 2026, notes that Siolim's Zagor brings Hindu and Christian faiths together.
When is the best time to stay in Siolim?
October to March is the beach season, and December to February is the peak. That is Goa Tourism's reading, and it calls June to September the least popular months because of rough seas, dangerous undercurrents and rain. In 2025, IMD recorded the monsoon arriving over Goa on 25 May and withdrawing on 13 October, with 3,135 mm of rain from June to September, as reported by The Goan.
June is worth a look for one reason: Sao Joao on 24 June is the biggest day of Siolim's year, and Airbnb's Siolim average for June, ₹15,224, is below December's ₹18,795.
