Goa's Best Kept Secrets

Bengaluru to Goa for a villa trip: fly, train or drive

Updated 7 November 2026

From Bengaluru, most villa groups should fly: to Mopa for a North Goa villa, to Dabolim for South Goa. The one daily train on Konkan Railway's schedule, 17309 from Yesvantpur, runs via Hubballi and reaches Madgaon at 3.25 am and Vasco at 5.15 am, so it suits a South Goa villa that allows an early arrival.

Should a Bengaluru group fly, take the train or drive to Goa?

Fly, for most groups. Bengaluru has one daily train to Goa and it arrives in the small hours, so the flight is the easier way to reach a villa in daylight. The one decision that matters is which of Goa's two airports to fly into, and that depends on where the villa is.

The train is a good choice for a South Goa villa if the group is happy to sleep on board and the villa can take an early arrival. Driving is possible but we could not find a distance or time from a source we trust, so we give none.

Mopa or Dabolim: which airport is right from Bengaluru?

Fly into Mopa for a North Goa villa and Dabolim for a South Goa villa. Bengaluru has flights to both. Goa Tourism lists Bangalore among the cities with flights to Dabolim. Business Today reported in January 2023 that IndiGo named Bangalore among its first eight Mopa routes. Herald Goa reported on 14 May 2026 that IndiGo had reduced flights to both Goa airports from June 2026, with frequency cuts on metro routes including Bengaluru, so expect fewer flights than before. Check the airport code on the ticket: GOX is Mopa, GOI is Dabolim.

Mopa (GOX)About 35 km and an hour to Panaji; about 20 km and 45 minutes to Assagao; about 100 km and two and a half hours to South Goa. Taxi fares listed in January 2023: Mapusa ₹810, Morjim ₹1,100, Siolim and Anjuna ₹1,200.Free Press Journal (January 2023)
Dabolim (GOI)6 km from Vasco; 24.4 km and 33 minutes to Margao; about 26 km from Panaji. Pre-paid taxis and Goa Miles cabs at the airport.Goa Tourism

The mistake to avoid is the cheaper fare to the wrong airport. Mopa to South Goa is about two and a half hours by road on the Free Press Journal's figure, which adds hours and a long taxi fare to the cheaper ticket. Mopa also runs airport buses with Kadamba Transport to Thivim station, Calangute, Panaji and Margao, on the airport's own timetable.

What is the Bengaluru to Goa train like for a villa group?

Train 17309 is a daily overnight train that leaves Yesvantpur at 3 pm. On Konkan Railway's schedule it calls at Tumakuru, Arsikere, Haveri, Hubballi at 10.15 pm, Dharwad and Londa, then drops through Castle Rock to Kulem, the first Goa station, at 2.30 am. It reaches Madgaon at 3.25 am and ends at Vasco da Gama at 5.15 am.

Those hours shape the plan:

The return train, 17310, leaves Vasco da Gama at 10.25 pm and Madgaon at 11.05 pm every day. That is a useful time for a villa group: check out, keep the last afternoon at the beach, and board at night.

The train does not stop at Thivim, so it is a poor fit for a North Goa villa. Goa Tourism puts Madgaon about 38 km from Panaji, and the North Goa villages lie beyond Panaji.

What happens after you land or arrive?

At Dabolim, domestic flights arrive at Terminal 1 and international flights at Terminal 2, Goa Tourism says, and the transport choices are government pre-paid taxis and Goa Miles cabs. The Airports Authority of India describes Dabolim as a civil enclave in the naval air base INS Hansa, so the airport sits inside Navy land near Vasco.

At Mopa, the airport's taxi page lists three choices: a counter for the state's Goa Taxi app with fixed rates, GoaMiles, and MegaCabs. Its bus timetable lists departures from the airport to Calangute at 8.30 am, 10 am, 11 am, 2.30 pm, 5.30 pm and 8.30 pm, and to Thivim railway station at 10.15 am, 1 pm and 5 pm.

By train, the stop before Madgaon is Kulem. Gomantak Times calls Kulem the station for Dudhsagar Falls, with special jeeps from the station along a forest route. A group staying in South Goa can come back to Kulem for a day trip later in the week.

Can you drive from Bengaluru to Goa?

Yes, and some groups do, but we have not found a distance or driving time from an official body or a newspaper, only planner and blog estimates that disagree. This guide leaves them out. Check a live maps app before you leave.

If your route enters Goa from Belagavi over the Chorla Ghat, read the road news first in the monsoon. The Goan reported in July 2026 that a nearly 10 km stretch of the Goa to Belagavi highway there is highly prone to landslides, that falling trees and landslides can close it for hours or a day, and that gaur, deer and wild boar cross the road, especially at night. Plan to cross the ghat in daylight.

A car helps if the villa is inland or the group wants to see both halves of Goa. For a beach village with shacks within walking distance, local taxis may be enough.

Where should a Bengaluru group book a villa?

Book where your arrival point is, and do it before you buy tickets.

For a side-by-side view of the two halves, read North Goa or South Goa for a villa holiday. Large groups should look at group villas in Goa, and anyone comparing quotes should start with what a Goa villa costs a night. Friends travelling from Mumbai, Pune or Delhi have their own guides. When the dates are fixed, see our villas, and read how to book a Goa villa directly and safely before paying a deposit.
